Delhi Capitals Defeat Chennai Super Kings by 20 Runs: MS Dhoni’s Brilliant Batting Not Enough for CSK

Visakhapatnam: After winning two matches in a row, defending champions Chennai Super Kings suffered their first defeat of the IPL season. Delhi Capitals defeated Chennai by 20 runs. Chasing a target of 192 runs, Chennai managed to score 171 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Despite the loss, MS Dhoni’s brilliant batting inspired the Chennai fans. MSD scored 37 runs off 16 balls including three sixes and four fours.

Chasing a huge target, Chennai did not get off to a good start. After scoring just seven runs in the first three overs, openers captain Ruthuraj Gaekwad 1(2) and Rachin Ravindra 2(12) were out. But then Ajinkya Rahane 45(30) and Darryl Mitchell 34(26) got the team going. Both scored 68 runs when Mitchell was dismissed by Axar. Later in the 14th over, Mukesh Kumar struck a double blow for Chennai, returning Rahane and Sameer Rizvi 0(1) in successive balls.

Later Shivam Dubey returned 18(17) and Mukesh Kumar. Ravindra Jadeja 21*(17) and MS Dhoni 37*(16) remained unbeaten but neither could take Chennai to the target of victory. Mukesh Kumar took three wickets while Khalil Ahmed took two wickets and Axar Patel took one wicket for Delhi.

Batting first, Delhi Capitals scored 191 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. David Warner 52(35) and captain Rishabh Pant 51(32) scored half-centuries while Prithvi Shah scored 43(27). Other batsmen scores are Mitchell Marsh 18(12), Axar Patel 7*(8), Abhishek Poral 9*(6). Lankan pacer Matisha Pathirana took three wickets for Chennai while Mustafizur Rahman and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket each.
