Delhaize wants to launch a hundred unmanned shops in companies

Supermarket chain Delhaize, together with catering company Selecta, is launching unmanned Shop&Go stores on the work floor.

In a company in Wielsbeke, the very first completely unmanned will open this week Shop&Go store. Employees will be able to go there 24/7 to buy a fresh lunch or snack during their break. The new concept was launched by Delhaize and Selecta to meet the needs of the new way of hybrid working, which has arisen due to the corona crisis.

Due to the pandemic, employees are at work less often, and this at varying times. With these new stores, both early and late shifts need to access dining facilities in an efficient manner. Payment for the products is done completely digitally, and only employees or visitors of the company will have access to the shop.

One Shop&Go-operator comes to fill and clean the store daily. Placing a shop in a company is possible from 6m²with an average of about 250 products, including juices, sandwiches, salads, meals and snacks that the company can put together itself.

Smart refrigerators

For smaller organizations that don’t have enough space for a real shop, the two companies are launching another new concept called Smart fridges. They detect which products are removed from the smart refrigerator and charge this when the door is closed again. Delhaize and Selecta are aiming for a launch of about a hundred Shop&Go’s and two hundred Smart fridges.
