“The shops are blocked and we again ask for the understanding and support of the customers,” Katrien Degryse of the socialist trade union ABVV told VRT NWS. “Ultimately, the only way the staff can respond is to the management. There has been dismay after the show of force with the bailiffs. The staff is still angry. Why won’t Delhaize’s management take their responsibility?”
Delhaize says that they are considering using bailiffs again to keep stores open. “If we notice that there are many people willing to work in a store and they want to open the store, we can again deploy bailiffs,” says Roel Dekelver of Delhaize. “Of course we want all stores to be open and remain open. So that customers can shop, our employees can work and our suppliers can deliver their products.”
In the afternoon, a new meeting is planned with the management and the mediator. For now, the situation is deadlocked.
