Delft (101,000 inhabitants) says it has no room for an asylum seekers center because it is a “compact city”. A spokesperson explains that there is no suitable space for an asylum seekers’ center within the municipal boundaries and that there are also great ambitions to build new houses.
In addition, Delft does receive Ukrainian refugees and the municipality complies with the legal target for housing status holders, i.e. former asylum seekers who now have a residence permit. “With this we also relieve the asylum seekers centers”, says the spokesperson.
Westland and Roosendaal
Westland, not far from Delft, also points out in a response that the municipality does not receive asylum seekers, but it does receive Ukrainian refugees. In fact, according to a spokesperson, Westland (110,000 inhabitants) receives more Ukrainians than surrounding municipalities.
Westland also says that it gives priority to housing for other target groups, such as status holders, labor migrants, students and starters. It has therefore been decided that there is no room for the reception of asylum seekers.
