These applications usually carry malware. One of the malware called Joker is even known to have entered an Android phone and can steal the personal data of the application downloader.
Joker malware can steal personal information from SMS, contact list and device information. In addition, it can also interact with advertising sites silently. Not only information, victims of this malware can also lose money.
Quick Heal reports, all applications when opened for the first time will ask to access notifications. Not until there, the application will retrieve SMS data from notifications and request access to contacts.
After getting permission from its user, the app will set permission to make phone calls. Later the application will monitor all the data obtained.
Even this malware also spreads on applications that are popular because of the functionality that users are looking for. Namely there is a scanner application, wallpaper and messaging.
In detail, it was detected that there were eight applications that carried the malware. The eight applications have the potential for theft of users’ personal data.
