Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Cybersecurity researchers found a number of apps with adware and malware. The Android app is still available and has been downloaded more than two million times.
For your information, adware displays unwanted and annoying advertisements. This disrupts the user experience on the internet, drains the battery, makes it hot, and causes charges that the user doesn’t know about.
Usually adware will hide in disguise and eventually make money to force victims to display or suppress advertisements. While the Trojan will steal login credential information including social media and banking accounts.
According to Dr.Web analysts, adware and Trojan applications will be the most prominent Android threats in May 2022. There is another spyware that can steal information from other applications’ notifications, specifically taking 2FA (OTP) passcodes and taking over accounts.
Here are five applications that are still available, quoted from Bleeping ComputerSunday (26/6/2022):
1. PIP Pic Camera Photo Editor (1 Million Downloads)
The malware disguised itself as image-editing software, but turned out to be stealing Facebook user account credentials.
2. Wild & Exotic Animal Wallpaper (500 ribu Download)
The adware trojan replaced the icon and name with SIM Tool Kit and added it to the list of exceptions to battery saving.
3. ZodiHoroscope (500 ribu Download)
Malware will steal Facebook account credentials with users being tricked into giving them away. Should have turned off in-app ads.
4. PIP Camera 2022 (50 thousand Downloads)
An application to give effect to the camera but it turns out to be able to hijack the victim’s Facebook account.
5. Magnifier Flashflight (10 ribu Download)
This app will serve videos as well as static banner ads.
