Six ministers and several directors of the Colombian Government arrived this Sunday at the El Plateado district, in the Cauca department, to present initiatives to improve the lives of the communities in that southwestern region.
According to information from the Presidency, with the accompaniment of the Public Force, the ministerial entities and other institutions will work on the social, economic and environmental development of the territories of the Micay Canyon, where an Army offensive against the armed group Central General Staff (EMC).
As a contribution to the construction of productive alternatives for the municipalities in the area, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will advance in the implementation of sustainable agroforestry systems that will be accompanied by technical assistance, agroindustrial transformation and collection and marketing processes.
According to the source, 15 billion pesos, about three million 570 thousand dollars, will be invested in this plan.
Likewise, it was announced that the Ministry of Health and Social Protection will continue to strengthen the health infrastructure in the department, with an investment of 22,458 million (more than five million 340 thousand dollars) for the construction of a new Care Unit in the community. from The Silver Plated.
In addition, more than three thousand 844 million (close to one million dollars) were allocated to provide the municipality with basic equipment, reinforcing primary care and guaranteeing a comprehensive response to the health needs of the population.
With the Energy Communities program, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, for its part, assured that it will accompany the Agrarian Reform policy and that of the Mining Districts.
The government visit occurs in the midst of an offensive carried out by the National Army that includes more than 17 armored vehicles and Urban Special Forces units against the Carlos Patiño structure of the EMC, which for five years dominated the territory.
Information from the Army detailed that around 1,400 troops, aircraft, artillery and surveillance and control systems were deployed in the area.
According to what the Army commander, General Luis Emilio Cardozo, told the press, they found a threatened population in the region, very afraid of talking to the institutions and with a lot of disbelief towards the Government.
“The phase of the operation that was to enter and control the urban area and its surroundings, where this armed group had a real fort, is completed. Now, what corresponds is to stabilize the territory and that is achieved with social proposals,” the officer noted.
