Dele Alli: From Trauma to Triumph – The Untold Story of a Soccer Star’s Childhood

Dele Alli today leads a successful life as a soccer player. But due to his childhood, in which he had to experience traumatizing things, he still suffers from drug addiction and psychological problems. In the interview he reports on the incidents of his childhood.

Soccer player Bamidele “Dele” Jermaine Alli (27) now leads a life that hardly has anything to do with his former life. His football career is going well – the 27-year-old international is under contract with English football club Everton and has an annual salary in the millions. In addition, she has a relationship with Instagram celebrity Cindy Kimberly, who has over seven million subscribers on Instagram.

However, life wasn’t always easy for Dele Alli. In the YouTube show “The Overlap” with Gary Neville (48), the soccer player is now unpacking about his childhood.

Traumatic childhood: violence and drugs

Dele Alli grew up with his mother in Milton Keynes, a town in England. He came into contact with drugs at an early age and started smoking when he was eight. He says an “elderly person” goaded him into selling drugs because the police wouldn’t stop a child on a bike.

In the emotional interview, Dele also tells that he was sexually abused by a friend of his mother’s when he was six years old. But this traumatic experience was not to remain for today’s football star: at the age of eleven he was again the victim of violence. “I was hanged from a bridge when I was eleven. From a guy from the neighborhood,” says the 27-year-old.

At the age of 13, however, things finally seemed to change for the little boy: his mother, who was addicted to alcohol, lost custody of Dele and he was put up for adoption. Adopted by a friend’s parents, Dele finally got security and belonging from that family. But initially it was difficult for young Dele to open up, insecurities plagued him: “When I lived with them, it was difficult for me to open up to them because I felt that they could easily get rid of me”.

Even today, his childhood is still a part of him. In the interview, he openly admits that he sought professional help because of psychological problems and an addiction to sleeping pills.
