It’s been about a year since Hamburg’s school senator Ties Rabe (SPD) announced many planned new school buildings. But there are now problems at a district school in Altona.
That came as a surprise on Thursday: the Altona district school informed its students and their parents that the new school building would not be finished on time. This means that the facility will not have any classrooms after the holidays.
No water and no teaching materials
The new building was built on the former site of the goods station in the new Altona residential area. The students should move into the building for the new school year after the summer holidays. However, there is now a problem with the water connection: the fresh water supply does not work in the new building. In addition, all the textbooks and documents have already been packed for the move.
School management: Daily routine after the holidays is still being planned
Therefore, the school now wants to extend the summer holidays by two days. School starts on August 28th, the meeting point is the meadow in front of the new building. However, it is still unclear where and how exactly the lessons will take place. The daily school routine still had to be planned, it said in one Statement from the school management team on the school’s website.
Further information
The Hamburg school authorities are expecting 45,000 additional pupils by 2030. They are reacting to this with an ambitious construction programme. (04/25/2023) more
