Both drummed up former companions and registered in the district league C, Berlin’s lowest division. Thanks to an exception, the club was allowed to skip the leisure league – the Berlin Football Association (BFV) normally stipulates that a newly founded club “must belong to the leisure league for three years without interruption”. This exception was justified by the association with the fact that there were no other climbers from the leisure league.
In any case, the goal of the club is to get into professional football as quickly as possible. The district league C does not seem to cause any major problems on this path. With a goal difference of 88:8, the Nerlich Club was able to win all 14 games of the season and is aiming for the championship. When looking at the squad, however, this yield is not surprising.
Kevin Pannewitz, Bilal Kamarieh and Alieu Sawaneh play for Delay Sports
The best-known name is Kevin Pannewitz. The former second division professional, who played for Oranienburger FC Eintracht in the 2016/17 season, has not yet played in the league for fitness reasons. But the experienced regional league player and captain Alieu Sawaneh (79 games), who moved from FSV Frankfurt to the federal capital. Or Bilal Kamarieh, former third division player for the reserves of 1. FSV Mainz 05 (4 games). In the 2017/18 season he played six times for Brandenburger SC Süd in the Oberliga.
EliasN97’s club has more followers than Union Berlin and Hertha BSC
In terms of sport, there seems to be no problems in the coming years. And even away from the sports field, Delay Sports has declared war on the established Berlin Bundesliga team. On Instagram, the club has 454,000 followers, almost as much as Union Berlin and Hertha BSC combined. And even with 10,000 members, the club is on the right track and can even keep up with Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (11,000).

And Nerlich and Co. make good use of the range. Instead of a high-investment sponsor, the lettering of the German Cancer Aid is emblazoned on the Berlin chest. However, the foundation does not pay for this, but receives a proportionate income from the membership fees and tickets from the association. “I don’t earn a cent with Delay Sports,” said Elias Nerlich in one of his videos at the end of last year, “with the income from the videos I’m about 20,000 euros in the red. But I don’t care, I’m finally playing football again. In my own club, with my buddies. It’s good for my head.”
Delay Sports organizes a benefit game with Lok Potsdam for the German Cancer Aid
The next game will be completed by Delay Sports in Potsdam. On Sunday they will be guesting with the second team of ESV Lok Potsdam (2nd district class C Havelland) for a test match. The club from the Glienicke Bridge was able to contact delay trainer Andreas Schild via a podcast. The game will be played as a benefit game – “Movement against cancer” is the motto. Half of the entry fee of three euros will be donated to the German Cancer Aid.
