Mexico City. Mexican Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates) remains the best Latin American in the Vuelta a España after the seventh stage, finding himself in 19th place, although he is already being chased by Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (EF Education-Easypost).
Belgian Wout van Aert (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) claimed his second victory in the race by winning in a sprint, while Australian Ben O’Connor (Decathlon-Ag2r La Mondiale) remains the overall leader.
Del Toro finished in 21st position with a time of four hours 15 minutes and 39 seconds in the seventh stage of the competition, which covers 180.5 kilometers of mid-mountain between Archidona and Córdoba.
He remains the best Latin American, although the emblematic Richard Carapaz, who was the first Ecuadorian to win the Giro d’Italia in 2019, is already looming. The South American arrived at the finish line this Friday in 13th place to improve his position in the general table and climb to 22nd place.
Van Aert took the seventh stage to celebrate his second win in this edition and consolidate his green jersey in the points classification.
The Belgian outpaced youngsters Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek) and Pau Miquel (Team Kern Pharma) in the sprint of the small group of favourites to reach the finish line.
Ben O’Connor defends the red leader’s jersey with a lead of 4:45 minutes over Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe).
