The German Ice Hockey League starts the new season on December 17th with the Rhenish derby between the Kölner Haien and the Düsseldorfer EG.
This emerges from the schedule published by the DEL on Friday. The face-off of the game between the two arch-rivals is at 7:30 p.m. The encounter will be broadcast on “MagentaSport” and on the channel “#dabeiTV” on “MagentaTV”.
“The anticipation can already be felt. A derby at the start of the new season is particularly appealing for fans of the two clubs. Ice hockey fans should benefit from the game schedule, there is ice hockey non-stop. A total of 22 games will take place by the turn of the year “said DEL managing director Gernot Tripcke.
The start of the season had been postponed twice due to the effects of the corona, and in the meantime there was even a complete cancellation in the room.
Nine months after the corona-related termination of the preseason, the shortened 27th DEL game time will be played in a different mode.
The league was divided into two regional groups, shorter trips reduce costs and facilitate the implementation of hygiene requirements. The main round was shortened from 56 to 38 games. Then, as usual, the champions will be determined in the playoffs.
One day after the derby in Cologne, the former series champion Eisbären Berlin starts the season against Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven on December 18. On December 19, the Adler Mannheim will meet the Nürnberg Ice Tigers.
At the end of the first match day, three games will take place on December 20th: Red Bull Munich against Augsburg Panther, ERC Ingolstadt has to play against Schwenninger Wild Wings, and Grizzlys Wolfsburg will face the Krefeld Penguins.
