Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti qualified from the first round of the All England 2023. They defeated fellow Indonesian partners, Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
The duel between Indonesian mixed doubles took place at the Utilita Arena, Birmingham, Wednesday (15/3/2023) evening WIB. The game was tight in three games, with Praveen/Melati winning 19-21, 21-17, and 21-18 over Dejan/Gloria within 65 minutes.
The match immediately went fierce since the first game. The two pairs exchanged points, with Dejan/Gloria trying to open the gap several times.
At point 18-17, they managed to touch 20 points first and held back Praveen/Melati’s points. Praveen/Melati then added two points and narrowed the difference, but Dejan/Gloria closed the game 21-19.
In the second game, Praveen/Melati appeared to be more controlling and pressing. After the interval, they were leading 13-8.
But Dejan/Gloria didn’t give up and put up a fight. They had thinned the distance to just one point! Praveen/Melati responded calmly to the match and from 18-17, they took the second game to force a rubber-game.
The struggle for points was again presented in the third game. Dejan/Gloria were leading 7-4 at the start, then winning 11-9 during the interval.
Praveen/Melati then found momentum and reversed the position at 16-14. From there, the 2020 All England champion maintained his position and ensured victory.
In the round of 16, Praveen/Melati are waiting for tough opponents, namely the Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai. The Thai mixed doubles is the third seed in the tournament this time.
