Germany’s John Degenkolb was taken to hospital as a precaution after a fall in the road cycling world road race on Sunday, the German Federation (BDR) said.
The 32-year-old runner suffers from “skin abrasions and bruises” and “also fell on his head,” said a spokeswoman for the BDR.
Degenkolb fell with Dane Mikkel Honore, who also retired.
Also the victim of a fall, at the start of the race, the Danish Mads Pedersen, 2019 world champion, also threw in the towel.
