When Marjo’s husband dies unexpectedly, she is left alone with two children. Fortunately, her late husband left her well and she doesn’t have to worry about money and a home. However, that changes when a few years later she meets a new man who manages to get her into serious financial trouble. Marjo stands on the edge of the abyss and enlists the help of Martijn Krabbé and his team in ‘Postponement of Execution’.

When Marjo meets her husband Paul on vacation in 1985, it doesn’t take long before the two fall madly in love. The holiday love seems to last and the two get married and have two children. “Financially it went well then,” says Marjo. “We could live well on it and we did. We had a nice holiday and we lacked nothing.”

When Paul comes home after work in 2009, it all goes wrong. “I come into the room with a glass of wine and he suddenly falls. Then I called 911 and he was resuscitated. They spent 45 minutes with him and he eventually died.” Marjo is left with two children aged 9 and 15. “You end up on a rollercoaster,” she says. “It’s like a bad B-movie. Fortunately, he just arranged it well and I am still grateful to him for that.”

About six years later after the death of her husband, Marjo takes the plunge and starts looking for a new love online. “I ran into the man in question and it felt okay. He was divorced and his children had left home.” It even goes so well that he decides to move in with Marjo. He proposes to considerably renovate Marjo’s house and the two take out a construction mortgage of 90,000 euros. They also enter into a cohabitation contract that stipulates that he is 50 percent in the house.

Her boyfriend enlists several acquaintances to help with the renovation, but in the end some minor changes come after little of the renovation. The relationship also goes downhill: Marjo finds out that her boyfriend lied to her and kicks him out of the house. Not much later, Marjo loses her job and is therefore left with an increased mortgage that she cannot pay on her own. “The worst thing I think is that I’m losing myself. Plus that you also just get physical complaints. I don’t understand how someone can do such a thing.”

Martijn’s team mainly has one goal and that is to ensure that Marjo’s ex-boyfriend is no longer the 50 percent owner of the house. If the house can then possibly be sold, he also has no claim on the equity of the house. It soon becomes apparent that after their breakup, everything has been set in motion for this, but that it has never been ‘formalized’. So a signature from her ex is still needed.

While the team is doing its best to get this autograph, Marjo hasn’t been sitting still either. With her job in which she had a contract for about six hours a week, she could not pay the mortgage. Fortunately, she has been hired at another company, where she can work no less than six days a week. Budget coach Eef van Opdorp is now trying to get things done at the bank and with success: the mortgage can be significantly reduced and after a few months she finally managed to get her ex’s signature.

Marjo can continue to live in her old house and instead of 638 euros per month she only has to pay 400 euros per month, something she can afford with her new job. To give her even more pampering, her house is getting a little makeover to give her a ‘fresh start’. Marjo can’t believe her eyes when she sees her ‘new’ house. “Wow, I’m really speechless,” she stammers. “It feels really good!”
