The Ministry of Health of the Government of Andalusia has set the definitive dates of the vaccination schedule against Covid and flu. As announced this Tuesday after the weekly meeting of the Government Council, this year’s campaign will start next Monday October 9, moving one week ahead of the initially planned deadlines. Furthermore, and as another of the great new features that are incorporated, is reduced from 65 to 60 years the minimum age of the population to which this vaccination is directed.
The first to be vaccinated jointly against both viruses this Monday, October 9, will be the Andalusians who are in residential centers, the over 85 years old, the staff of health and social health centers and intern students. In addition, the doses corresponding to children between 6 and 59 months who already have an appointment on those days to receive any other vaccine will also be inoculated.
Already the day October 16On Monday of the following week, the bulk of the vaccination campaign will begin, which will take place mainly in the region’s health centers. From this day onwards, Andalusians over 70 years of age, the rest of the child population, pregnant women, as well as highly dependent people and their caregivers are summoned.
Almost at the end of the month, starting October 30, it will be the turn of Andalusians over 60 years of age. Likewise, professionals from the State Security Forces and Corps, workers in penitentiary institutions and other groups such as veterinarians and livestock farmers will also be able to make an appointment from that day on.
Finally, starting in December Those who are part of the last of the groups to which this campaign is directed will be able to go to health centers to receive the double vaccine against Covid and flu. Specifically, from that date the remaining doses will be administered to the cohabitants of those over 60 years of age or people at risk.
Call for vaccination
The Health Advisor, Catalina García, has taken advantage of the publication of this calendar to call for “awareness” among Andalusians, highlighting the importance of getting vaccinated to prevent serious cases and hospitalizations. «Our goal this year is to achieve a similar vaccination rate among those over 65 years of age and pregnant and improve that of health professionals«explained García, since last year it barely exceeded 50% among workers in the sector.
In total, Andalusia will invest in vaccines this year about 117.5 million euros compared to the 42.2 million that were allocated in 2018. This is, as the counselor announced, an increase of 178.4 percent in five years. In the specific case of the flu 2.2 million doses will be inoculated, about 200,000 more than in last year’s campaign. Those interested in receiving them may make an appointment four days before the start of the period corresponding to the age group or professional to which they belong.
