Humans have 206 bones in the body which consist of various types, one of them bone vulnerable. Examples of cartilage in the body man there are many

Even in infancy, most of the bones are cartilage. However, with growth and age, the amount of cartilage in the human body decreases.

The following is an explanation of cartilage as summarized from Class XI High School Biology Learning Module Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

Definition of Cartilage

The definition of cartilage is bone that is flexible. This is because cartilage is composed of a special connective tissue consisting of chondrocyte cells that secrete a matrix (chondrin) in the form of hyaline or collagen.

Chondrocyte cells are located in cavities called lacunae. In addition, cartilage is flexible because it contains a small amount of calcium. Conversely, hard bones contain a lot of calcium.

Cartilage Function

Cartilage has several functions in the body. One of them became the initial bone forming the human body.

When you’re a baby, most of the bones in your body are made of cartilage. However, the cartilage in the body undergoes ossification or ossification.

This makes the cartilage slowly grow hard so that it is no longer flexible when humans grow into adults.

In addition, another function of cartilage is to support soft tissue.

Types of Cartilage

Cartilage consists of three types, namely hyaline, elastic, and fibrocartilage. The following is an explanation of each bone.

1. Hyaline cartilage

Hyaline cartilage is bone that is smooth and transparent because it contains a homogeneous matrix. Hyaline cartilage is found on the articular surfaces of the trachea and joints.

2. Elastic cartilage

Elastic cartilage is a flexible bone because it contains a matrix that has branching elastic fibers.

Elastic cartilage is found in the bones of the nose and auricles.

3. Fibrous cartilage

Fibrous cartilage is bone that is less flexible because its matrix contains collagen fibers. Fibrous cartilage is found in the vertebrae, knees, tendons or ends of muscles that attach to bones, and ligaments.

Examples of Cartilage

Most of the cartilage is present in the human body in infancy, but as it grows it undergoes ossification.

However, there is some cartilage that does not undergo ossification until the human adult.

Examples of cartilage in the human body that do not experience reinforcement are as follows.

  1. The bones in the joints make it easier for the body to move
  2. Bones in the earlobes
  3. Nasal bone
  4. Bronchial bones
  5. Bones in the trachea
  6. Spinal vertebrae

That is an explanation of examples of cartilage in the human body. Hopefully useful and happy learning!
