Definitely confirmed. The Belgian Evenepoel won the Vuelta

“Everything started, now it’s official. It was already very exciting yesterday, because we knew we were almost there, but we still had to finish the race safely. Now we can really enjoy it”, exclaimed the new champion.

Evenepoel won one of three elite races as the first Belgian in 44 years. The last time Johan de Muynck did it was in 1978 at the Giro d’Italia. He succeeded Primož Roglič at the Vuelta. The Slovenian cyclist has reigned supreme in the race for the past three years, this year he had to retire from second place after crashing at the end of the 16th stage.

“I didn’t have much time to think today because it was a very technical circuit here in Madrid. I was more nervous with every lap and I’m happy to have made it this far. It’s a historic moment for the team, for my country and for me.” , Evenepoel said.

Juan Sebastián Molano won the last spur race at the end of the 96.7 kilometer stage in Madrid. After the group cleared a breakaway in the last kilometer, the Colombian cyclist beat three-stage winner Mads Pedersen. The former Danish world champion dominated the scoring competition.
