Defense on the move in case Peter R. de Vries

The lawyers of the two men who allegedly murdered Peter R. de Vries will be given the floor today in the Amsterdam court. Last week, the Public Prosecution Service demanded a lifetime jail time against Delano G., the suspected shooter, and Kamil E., who allegedly did preliminary reconnaissance and acted as a driver.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, there is an excess of evidence that the men are responsible for the shooting of De Vries on July 6 last year. There are camera images showing the two, there is no concealing app traffic about the liquidation and there are forensic traces, such as DNA material on the murder weapon.

36-year-old Kamil E. from Maurik denies that he knew about the murder or was involved in it. The 22-year-old Delano G. from Tiel fully relies on his right to remain silent.

Speaking right

Today, Peter R. de Vries’s partner, Rijnmond presenter Tahmina Akefi, will also be given the floor. She uses her right to speak, just like the two children of De Vries last week. After that, the lawyers of the two suspects will make their plea.

Earlier, Delano’s lawyer G. objection against anonymizing the file in the case. For security reasons, the names of all detectives, witnesses and experts have been painted off. According to the lawyer, their reliability could therefore not be checked.

Third person

Peter R. de Vries was shot in the head at close range when, after a broadcast of RTL Boulevard walked across the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat in the center of Amsterdam. He died in hospital more than a week later.

The Public Prosecution Service said last week that it is almost inevitable that he was murdered because of his role in the Marengo trial against Ridouan Taghi. De Vries was the confidential counselor of the key witness in this case.

The investigation into other people involved in the murder is still ongoing. The two suspects say nothing about it. Kamil E. acknowledges that he had to bring his co-defendant Delano G. to Amsterdam on the day of the murder, but he would not say on whose behalf.

Last week he suddenly stated in court that there was a third person in the car, just like him, a man of Polish descent. That would explain potentially incriminating messages in Polish. The OM thinks he made up the extra passenger.

The court will rule on the case on July 14.
