It is true that the internal party elections of PaSoK caused wider interest in Greek society, they mobilized over 300,000 citizens, but no one can argue that their results caused a political earthquake in the country.
Whatever the result of the second round, no one believes anymore that Greek society will rise up, join the new leader en masse and form an environment of strong opposition, able to claim power in the country soon. “One of the same” some said.
The developments in the Center-Left
Neither did Mr. Androulakismuch more Mr. Dukethey cannot quickly change the course of political affairs in the country. The former will hardly get rid of the logic of small steps that defined his leadership in the previous two and a half years, while the latter seems undermined by the refusal of the Athenians to massively support their mayor.
At the other pole of the left opposition, in the zone of SYRIZA, the phenomena are dissolving. As time passes, the assertion of leadership refers to poor quality reality that alienates and does not mobilize. It is a common belief that SYRIZA is heading back to the fringes of political life, from where it emerged in those conditions of political confusion brought about by the debt crisis and the economic collapse that accompanied it.
Information indicates that the meetings and meetings of Mr. Mitsotakis with ministers and his closest collaborators have recently been continuous with the aim of managing the multiple pressures and the erosion of electoral influence they cause.
There can be no doubt as the hair-pulling in SYRIZA develops that the Left will need many, many years to claim power in the country again. It is such a wear and tear that it leaves no room for anything else.
Given these facts and given the conservative turn in Europe, Greek political developments will not be shaped in the broader zone of the Center Left and the Left. There are not a few who believe that most will be decided in the other zone, that of the liberal Center-Right and the rising nationalist populist and conspiratorial Far-Right.
Coping with pressures
Mr. Mitsotakis after the election results in the internal party elections, PASoK will continue to plunder the Center, but will receive multiple pressures both from the populist-liberal internal party forces, as stated by the actions of some MPs of <a href="https://www.world-today-news.com/syriza-defeated-greece-turns-the-page-tsipras/" title="Syriza defeated, Greece turns the page Tsípras”>New Democracy, who respond to the many nods of disapproval of the government by the two former prime ministers, Mr. Karamanlis and Samaraas well as from the expanding circle of the populist Far Right. Officially, the government downplays these pressures.
Some he publicly ignores and others he treats disparagingly. However, internally, worries and searches abound. Information indicates that the meetings and meetings of Mr. Mitsotakis with ministers and his closest collaborators have been ongoing recently with the exact purpose of managing the multiple pressures and the erosion of electoral influence they are causing.
Many are those who limit the search to right turns and readjustments of critical policies. However, the truth is that the search takes on wider dimensions.
Ministers note that what is said and written about a right or left turn is unfounded and that the only way for the government to escape from the multiple pressures is to deal effectively with the multiple problems of Greek society.
The whole search starts from specific findings about the fifty years of the Post-colonial period. The circle of Mr. Mitsotakis has concluded that in addition to the indisputable progress during the long post-colonial period, serious losses were also recorded. They estimate that Greek society in all the previous years gradually abandoned principles and values that made it coherent and organized, lost the disciplines that guided its behavior and at the same time denied in a multitude of activities the concepts of hierarchy and compliance with the laws.
“When teachers and professors lose control of the classrooms in the country’s schools, obviously the educational process also declines” underlines one of Mr. Mitsotakis’ interlocutors and praises the acceptance of the initiative of the Minister of Education, Mr. Kyriakou Pierrakakis for banning cell phones in school classrooms.
He argued that the ban should be total so that the lesson progresses smoothly without distancing and that the breaks also favor the socialization of students and not tensions and violence. Accordingly, the phenomena of violence in sports arenas must stop, the hierarchy must be returned to the state and the Public Administration and in general there must be policies that will lead to the recovery of the lost values and disciplines caused by the anti-authoritarian culture of the post-colonial period.
The political plan
In general, the government believes that Greek society is suffering and needs brave policies of comprehensive restructuring and regeneration. According to the same information, a specific political plan is being prepared in this direction. The coordination of the ministries is already being organized in order to select the zones, the policies and the measures that will accompany them.
It is even said that the entire effort will be personally led by the Prime Minister. It remains to be seen, of course, how much it will really address social needs and not develop into a typical conservative turn to deal with the multiple pressures the government receives from the circle of the populist nationalist Far Right.
