Defending champion Woods equals his best start at Masters | with four under par NOW

Tiger Woods delivered a strong first round at the postponed Masters in Augusta. The defending champion closed the opening day on Thursday with four strokes under par.

The 44-year-old Woods produced four birdies and played the other fourteen holes par. He is currently tied for fourth place.

For Woods, four under par equals his best ever start at the prestigious tournament. It dated from ten years ago. Last year, on his way to his fifteenth major win on day one, he remained ‘just’ two strokes below the track average.

The Englishman Paul Casey (-7) is the surprising leader. Americans Xander Schauffele and Webb Simpson were five strokes below the job average.

Not all golfers have completed their first round yet. Due to thunderstorms and persistent rainfall, the first tournament day had to be stopped for three hours shortly after the start.

Woods did not impress this season

Woods only played six tournaments after the corona break and did not make much impression. He finished 37th at the PGA Championship and missed the cut at the US Open, the first two majors of this unique season.

The Masters at the famous Augusta National Golf Club normally take place in April. Due to the corona pandemic, the tournament was moved for more than six months. There is no public welcome.
