The Carolina Hurricanes celebrated their second win in the first round of the NHL playoffs. The Hurricanes defeated the Boston Bruins 5-2 on Wednesday and are 2-0 ahead in the best of seven series. Defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning equalized to make it 1-1 with a 5-3 away win at the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Minnesota Wild and Edmonton Oilers also drew 1-1. In Raleigh, Antti Raanta, who is currently the Hurricanes’ number one goalkeeper in place of Frederik Andersen, who has been injured since mid-April, had to come off the ice after a good seven minutes of a heated game with an injury. As a result, the third Carolina goaltender and league newcomer Pyotr Kochetkov came into play and saved 30 of 32 shots.
Minnesota defeated the St. Louis Blues 6-2 thanks in no small part to a hat-trick by Kirill Kaprizov. Edmonton outclassed the Los Angeles Kings 6-0.
