The new Land Rover Defender is presented in a slightly upgraded version for the 2021 model year, which will offer a new plug-in hybrid, a redesigned diesel range and a new trim level.
–
Probably the biggest innovation in the rejuvenated Land Rover Defender’s offer is the plug-in hybrid powertrain called P400e, which combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine P300 (221 kW / 300 hp) with a 105 kW electric motor and a 19.2 kWh battery.
The result is a combined power of 404 hp and 640 Nm of torque, making the plug-in hybrid Defender P400e the most powerful engine on offer. After all, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.4 seconds and its maximum speed reaches up to 209 km / h.
For those interested in a plug-in hybrid, however, it will probably be more important that with a full battery it can cover up to 43 kilometers in pure electric mode, its average consumption should be around 3.3 l / 100 km and emissions are 74 g CO2 per kilometer.

The standard equipment of the P400e hybrid defect will be 20-inch alloy wheels, an air chassis and, of course, there can be a charging socket located on the left rear fender. All plug-in hybrids will basically be equipped with a Mode 3 charging cable, with which the battery can be charged to 80 percent in about 2 hours.
An optional Mode 2 charging cable can also be ordered, but it will take up to seven hours to charge to 80 percent battery capacity. A practical addition, however, is the support of fast charging with an output of 50 kW, thanks to which the battery can be charged to 80 percent of capacity in as little as 30 minutes.

Of course, the plug-in hybrid Defender will not get lost even in the field, where it benefits from a linear torque curve. In addition, lighter and heavier terrain can be conquered in a fully electric mode. Defik can also handle towing a load weighing up to 3,000 kilograms and the maximum roof load is 168 kg (dynamic) to 300 kilograms (static).
A novelty in the offer of diesel engines is the six-cylinder Ingenium D300, which will offer an output of 221 kW (300 hp) and 650 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in the body of the short Defender P90 in 6.7 seconds.
In addition, the engine is equipped with mild-hybrid technology and works with the new intelligent all-wheel drive system. At the same time, the Mild-hybrid contributes to the better economy of the model by operating the Stop-Start system even more efficiently and at the same time improves the response during acceleration.

However, changes did not escape even weaker diesels. The currently offered diesel four-cylinder D200 and D240 will replace the diesel six-cylinder. It is the same engine as the D300, but under the hood of the D200 will be tuned to 200 horsepower and the D240 will be renamed the D250 and its power will increase to 249 horsepower.
Consumption of D200 and D250 engines should be around 8.8 l / 100 km and CO emissions2 should be around 230 g / km. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h can be done by new diesels (under the hood of the Defender 110) in 10.2 and 8.3 seconds, respectively.
In the range of equipment, we should see a new level of X-Dynamic, which is to bridge the gap between the basic equipment Defender and the top model Defender X. Equipment X-Dynamic equipment should combine a rougher and more valuable-looking exterior with unique interior elements.

The exterior should offer, for example, a part of the front and rear protective plastics in the color Silicon Satin, which will be matched by the radiator grille and model designation. The rear towing eyes should be painted in Satin Black, while the cast wheels will offer a Satin Dark Gray / Gloss Black color combination. Mirror covers, window trim, fender trims and sills should then be painted in Narvik Black.
Inside, we should see backlit door and seat moldings upholstered in Robustec in two colors. Robustec material should be inspired by textiles used in extreme outdoor situations, thanks to which it should withstand even greater stress.

In conclusion, we can only add that perhaps with the modernization for the model year 2021 we will finally see a short Defender 90, whose production has been postponed due to complications associated with the disease Covid-19. However, the question remains whether the work-oriented Defender Hard Top, which the carmaker has introduced before, will also target our market.
