Former FC Barcelona defender Dani Alves was arrested on Friday on suspicion of assault. The 39-year-old Brazilian is suspected of assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona in December.
Alves is said to have touched the woman while dancing. The right-back was taken into custody on Friday after coming to the police station to make a statement.
Alves previously confirmed that he was present at the nightclub, but denies the incident. “It’s not true. I like to dance, but without getting into anyone’s aura. I’m very sorry, but I don’t know this woman at all.”
Alves played in two periods for Barcelona and made the switch to the Mexican UNAM Pumas last year. He also played in Europe for Sevilla, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
The veteran was active with the Brazilian team at the World Cup in Qatar in November and December. He has played a total of 126 international matches. Only Cafú (143) and Roberto Carlos (127) made more appearances on behalf of Brazil.
