Defeat of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto at 2023 Japan Open and their outlook for the 2024 Olympics

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto must end their run at the 2023 Japan Open. This was after the Indonesian men’s doubles were defeated by Lee Yang/Wang Chi-lin.

Fajar/Rian lost two straight games to the Chinese Taipei pair. The world number one pair lost 19-21, 10-21 to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions in 36 minutes.

“It’s not the result we wanted. Game-wise, we admit that Lee/Wang were better today. They have extraordinary speed and power,” said Rian after the 2023 Japan Open semifinal match at Yoyogi 1ST Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan, Saturday ( 29/7/2023) morning WIB.

Fajar/Rian admitted that they could not escape the pressure exerted by Lee/Wang. “The opponent continues to pressure us and we can’t get out of that pressure. We’ve tried several ways from drive to defense, but they can still anticipate. Very aggressive,” said Fajar.

Failing to advance to the Japan Open final, Fajar/Rian said this result would make them even more wary of their opponents. Moreover, the hunt for tickets to the 2024 Olympics has already begun.

“Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin are not new players, they are Olympic gold medalists. In terms of achievements and playing, each player has ups and downs and now they are starting to rise again and that’s normal,” said Fajar.

“Moreover, everyone definitely wants to appear at the Olympics next year. This is what we have to be aware of and learn from all opponents,” he concluded.
