The 4th matchday in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga ends with a defeat for MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg. The Swabians start the game weakly (11:22) and can no longer free themselves from the opening penalty. Ultimately, the yellow-blacks lost to Telekom Baskets Bonn 86:91.

With the identical starting lineup from the previous weeks and an identical early starter, namely Jonathan Bähre, the MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg went into the second meeting with Bonn. However, things were by no means smooth, but rather very tense at the start of the game. Bähre hit his first throw, but little or nothing worked otherwise – Ludwigsburg increasingly fell behind and endured a very poor opening quarter (3:14, 5th minute of the game / 11:22, 10th).

While little came together at the beginning of the second half of the game, it was the individual actions that ensured a balanced game and brought the Swabians back. Jayvon Graves, Deion Hammond and Desure Buie scored points. Afterwards, five points from Eddy Edigin, interrupted by Silas Melson, provided another reason for much better spirits (26:32, 15th). However, the HUGE run was only to be short-lived – the Telekom Baskets got back on track. They executed their offensive systems more accurately and consistently, let the ball run and dissected the yellow-black formation. The result was 37:45 when we went into the dressing rooms.

Catching up: yes, victory: no.

Immediately after the break, it was Graves and Bähre once again, the latter with a three-point throw that first hit the ring and then fell through the net, who took the lead and thus ensured the best phase of the game. This was followed by (another) Grave three-pointer and two more long-range hits by Desure Buie, who found an excellent mixture of game design and his own creation in this phase (48:49). Completely different from all other sequences, the middle of the quarter was characterized by an offensively open visor – which audibly excited the large majority of fans. To the Swabian chagrin, Sam Griesel and Brian Fobbs punished the potential for improvement in Ludwigsburg’s defense, scored several baskets and the Telekom Baskets started to gain momentum (63:75, 30th).

This upward trend was soon stopped again by the home team, but although Yorman Polas Bartolo, Jayvon Graves and Co. went to work with the courage of desperation and stood strong in defense for several minutes, they were unable to overturn the proverbial buck. Not much was missing, but in many situations the last few percent were missing. In the final seconds there were two chances for the decisive possession of the ball at -3, the Bonn team, in the person of Ike Udanoh and Christian Sengfelder, were twice as focused and present – and therefore ultimately victorious.

Due to the 86:91 defeat against Telekom Baskets Bonn, the Ludwigsburg team now have a 1:2 record in the easyCredit BBL. The next challenge is not on a national level, but on an international level – on Tuesday evening the Polish champions from Stettin will be in the MHPArena. Tip-off is at 8:00 p.m.
