National goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and FC Barcelona lost the Spanish Supercup final against Athletic Bilbao 2: 3 (2: 2, 1: 1) after extra time, despite leading twice.
In the extra time, Inaki Williams scored the winning goal for the underdog with an outstanding shot in Seville. Ter Stegen had no chance with the goal, the ball jumped from the inside post into the goal.
A brace from French international Antoine Griezmann (40th / 77th minute) had previously put Barcelona in the lead twice. Superstar Lionel Messi was back – but was sent off shortly before the game’s final whistle after an assault.
For Sevilla Oscar de Marcos had scored 1: 1 (42nd) in the meantime before half-time, Asier Villalibre saved Sevilla in the 90th minute with his goal to 2-2 in extra time. Bilbao had already prevailed against Real Madrid in the semi-finals and has now won the Supercup three times, most recently with a win against Barcelona in 2015.
