Deface walls for pleasure – PublicoGT

Miguel Angel Sandoval

World Women’s Day was commemorated on March 8. Good for it. It is to be congratulated for this movement, which started in a modern way, in the world, in the 1960s and in our country, except for small attempts, until after the signing of peace. But it is not in my interest to make history of a movement that has earned a place in the different social struggles of our time.

It seems necessary to try once more to separate the chaff from the wheat. I believe that defacing a bakery-cafeteria in the center does not contribute to discussing the issues raised on March 8 by the women’s march. On the contrary, painting a place with nonsense does not contribute to improving the image and the call of the women’s movement in the country. I say this knowing that this can create discontent, bad looks or whores among the defacers. It has to be pointed out.

A few days ago I saw that the aforementioned cafeteria-bakery was calling for a kind of contest to paint some walls, – strictly for free – for artists who wanted to express themselves. It was hard to say no. Well, art and artists must be recognized for their work. That is why Maco Quiroa defined himself as a cultural worker. Trying with it to emphasize that art was at the same time a job. It is for this reason that it seemed like a tease to me, the call for the bakery-cafeteria in question.

Now, if a group of artists who felt affected wanted to make an intervention on the walls of the same, they could well have organized it, carried it out, announcing the reasons, and not using the coverage of the women’s march. It seems to me that the call for the bakery was not of interest or knowledge of the thousands of women who marched. And for this reason the little group that defaced only did a disservice to the march, rather than gaining sympathy for their protest against the crappy call for the bakery-cafeteria.

Now what circulates on the networks are photos that depict bad taste, which is expressed on the defaced wall of that business. It is time that the different marches that are undoubtedly needed in the country, have enough maturity to understand that painting walls is not currently a way to improve anything. Neither does NI explain a political or ideological position. What it expresses is a lack of ideas.

There were times when from the clandestinity they chose to paint walls to publicize some messages. Today you can say whatever and use social networks, and if you get resources, make flyers, posters, etc. But painting walls for fun is useless. Except for a little scandal and the Virgen del Rosario very happy. To all this, what did the women raise on March 8?
