Def Con Dos, now as a sextet, and with César Strawberry in front (voice), are on tour on the occasion of their 30th Anniversary of the release of the album “Armas Pal pueblo” and also, they have just released a new single “Mutantes Pal pueblo” . His mix of rap, metal and hardcore doesn’t falter nor do his combative lyrics.
Rapcore group from Vigo that was formed in 1988 by Julián Hernández (Siniestro Total). Considered as pioneers of the rap metal genre, Def Con Dos began with the main interest in the sounds of groups like Public Enemy or Beastie Boys. Peón Kurtz and César Strawberry joined, and they made small recordings in which they developed a sound focused on hip hop with rock instruments.
A key moment for this band was the commission given to them by film director Álex de la Iglesia, which consisted of recording two songs for the film »Acción Mutante». It was then that they decided to reorganize the project, adding a member who would be indispensable: Jesús Arispont.
It didn’t take long for them to get into the recording studio, resulting in their album “Armas pal pueblo” in which their particular rap metal sound was already heard. This album had a great impact, which allowed them to go on a great national tour and record their next three: Alzheimer, Ultramemia and De Poca Madre.
In 1999 they took a break until five years later they returned to publish »Recargando». This album contained a much more powerful sound and close to metal that did not leave its fans or the specialized media indifferent.
In this new stage they released a total of five albums in which their style becomes cruder and closer to thrash metal with very elaborate lyrics full of metaphorical references and their usual social commitment.
Undoubtedly, one of the national musical projects that have had the greatest impact, being precursors of a genre that has served as a reference for numerous subsequent bands.
