Deezer Develops AI Tools to Detect and Eliminate Fake Music Hits

Deezer wants to detect musical content generated by AI to fight against the proliferation of fake hits imitating the voices of artists. “Our goal is to eliminate illegal and fraudulent content, increase transparency and develop a new compensation system where professional artists are rewarded for creating valuable content”said Deezer CEO Jeronimo Folgueira in a statement. “That is why […] we are developing tools to detect content generated by AI”he continues.

This so-called tagging system primarily aims to identify songs that use synthetic vocals from existing artists. “This information will be used to notify artists, labels and users of AI-generated content on the platform”, explains Deezer. This technology should be used to “develop a compensation model that distinguishes between different types of musical creation”.

The announcement comes as artificial intelligence is booming and shaking up many sectors, including music. In mid-February, the famous DJ David Guetta was talked about by using AI to create a voice close to that of rapper Eminem. The French artist did not market this title, explaining to the BBC that he wanted “open the discussion for awareness”.
