OPEN END – Traffic on the Wâldwei (N31) was temporarily halted on Sunday evening for a hit deer. The animal suddenly crossed the highway at Opeinde and an approaching motorist could no longer avoid a collision. The animal died on the spot as a result of the impact.
The driver was not injured, but was shaken. His car was also damaged, but was still able to drive. The driver who drove behind this motorist also hit the animal. His car was damaged on the bumper.
Traffic halted
Rijkswaterstaat shut down traffic around 9:20 p.m. Together with the police, they removed the remains of the animal from the road surface. The incident caused a traffic jam in the direction of Nijega to Drachten.
