Joint dedication of Korean Catholic bishops and priests in Myeongdong Cathedral

On the 7th a mass was held in Seoul to commemorate the former Pope Benedict XVI, who passed away on the 31st of last month.

The Korean Catholic bishops and priests jointly celebrated the “Mass in remembrance of Pope Benedict XVI” in the cathedral of Myeongdong, seat of the Catholic archdiocese of Seoul, in the afternoon of the same day.

The Mass was held in the presence of Archbishop Jeong Soon-taek, Archbishop of Seoul, Archbishop Alfred Schuereb, Apostolic Nuncio in Korea, and the Catholic Episcopal Conference, Msgr. Lee Yong-hoon.

Bishop Lee said, “The death of Pope Benedict XVI, who gave us unshakeable teachings on universal truth and righteousness, that is, not to fall into secularization, really makes our hearts heavy.” he will pray for us without end ”.

He underlined Benedict XVI’s special interest in Korea, saying, “He expressed deep interest and fervent prayer for various issues on the Korean peninsula, such as the desire for peace on the Korean peninsula and urging the resolution of the issue of separated families between the two Koreas .”

Archbishop Xuereb introduced his relationship with Benedict XVI by saying: “I had the honor of serving the Pope for five years as his second personal secretary” and a deeper love for the mysteries of God.”
