REGGIO EMILIA – 5 August: the deed which will sanction the purchase of the land. The announced meeting between the Region, the Municipality of Reggio and the representatives of the Sino-American company ended with an official statement from the company: the investment goes on, the luxury electric car pole will be built.
A year ago, the joint venture created by the Americans of Silk Ev and Faw, the leading auto manufacturing group in China, announced an investment of one billion and 300 million euros to create it establishment e the innovation center, over a thousand new hiresclose relations with the territory. But in recent months numerous doubts they had concentrated on the project: not only the farewell of some of the top managers but also, and above all, the failure to purchase the area.
About ten days ago the ultimatum of the Region and the Municipality: clarity on the continuation of the project and a certain date for the deed. Otherwise the municipality will not give the green light to the construction site. The last few days have been intense, with continuous online meetings in particular between the mayor Luca Vecchi and the representatives of the company. Then the turning point. Li Chongtian, one of the top executives of Faw, said: “We are working to make sure that the company has the necessary resources to carry out the business plan.” “We will proceed with the purchase of the land in Gavassa and work on our cars”, adds the president of Silk Sports Car Jonathan Krane. All in a press release from the managing director Katia Bassi.
The attitude of the institutions, however, became more circumspect: “For reasons of prudence and caution – said the mayor Luca Vecchi and the deputy mayor Alex Pratissoli – we believe it is important that the managers come in attendance and illustrate the project with the timing of its progressive realization, giving substance to an intention that was made explicit during the meeting held today “.
The Region and the Municipality have formally requested to receive the minutes confirming the commitments communicated during the meeting and have demanded that the deed be countersigned by President Krane and Li Chongtian. For now, therefore, they are waiting.
The CGIL: “The unknowns about employment levels remain”
The guarantee of continuity of the project is good but the unknowns remain starting from the employment levels. This is the comment on the news by the Reggio Emilia CGIL. In fact, there are still no certainties on the industrial plan that the unions asked to know months ago; the market context, also in the light of the war in Ukraine, has changed profoundly and for the CGIL it is essential to understand not only when but how it intends to proceed. “We therefore ask the Company to convene us and share its financial and industrial plan in detail”.
