On Monday, November 23, at 18.00 in a live concert from Latvian Radio 1st studio LR3 “Klasika” will celebrate the centenary of Daile Theater. It is significant that Eduards Smiļģis, the founder, director and actor of Daile Theater, was born on November 23, 134 years ago.
Singers Jolanta Strikaite-Lapiņa, Ieva Parša, Jānis Kurševs, Kārlis Rūtentāls, pianist Agnese Egliņa and narrator Orests Silabriedis will recall and for the first time will record Marģers Zariņš’s song play “Poet and Rose” with the words of Jānis Poruks.
For this purpose, Juris Vaivods, the head of the musical department of Daile Theater, has been looking for notes in the archive and has created a selection of songs especially for this concert.
The song play “The Poet and the Rose” was staged at the Daile Theater in the spring of 1942. This work, a product of the occupation, has been around for many years persona non grata pregnant. Marģeris Zariņš has pointed out that in 1942 Poruka’s 70th birthday and 30 years of death gave impetus to the song play. The story concerns the search for the youth of the poet Jānis Poruks – Dresden period and return to Riga. Eduards Smiļģis, who was the director of this play, wrote:

The concert will be heard on Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika” and viewed on the portal LSM.lv, supported by the State Cultural Capital Fund.
