Radio Naba’s music chart this week – Ģirts Koknēvičs’ solo single “You Walk on the Water”, “City Sounds” is dedicated to the anniversary of Alexander Chuck, and Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frushante – in memory of a cat who has gone to other hunting grounds psych-rock from Lucidvox and rough but relaxing rock music from Nilefer Janje.
Ģirts Koknēvičs – “You walk on the water surface” [pašizdots]
Last year, with his solo project “Dodo”, Ģirts Koknēvičs released one of the most outstanding domestic recordings of 2019 “Tur tek tu”. He has just returned with a new solo single, which is also released under his own name, so, I admit, pointing out that this is something different from “Dodo”. The main difference between “You Walk on the Water” and the Dodo record is the ambient minimalism and lack of synthesizers, which have been replaced here by guitar, bass, wind and other “live” instruments.

“City Sounds” – “Rooms” [pašizdots]
Jacques Beernaert’s or Jacques of STA’s project “Sounds of the City” celebrates a round 10th anniversary. However, the new single “Rooms”, whose vocals were sung by Zane Bratuškina, is dedicated to another anniversary – Alexander Chak a few weeks ago. This, by the way, is not the first single “City Sounds” with the words of the legendary poet, because two songs were released last year. – “Lover’s Song” and “Song for the Lamp”, which you can find on Jacques’ YouTube channel.
John Frusciante – “Brand E” [“Timesig”]
If someone had told me a month ago that John Frushante – Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist and glowing rock music lover – will release something I can mix with my beloved empathetically sour acid-house mixes, I would at best have politely smiled at that person. But here it is. Frušante’s latest solo piece, dedicated to the memory of his beloved cat, Maya, who passed away (also called Frušante’s album, which is already available in stores), and which is recommended to listen to “on repeat” to warm up from all the negations in the world. Thanks to the cat, thanks to John.
“Lucidvox” – “Amok” [“Glitterbeat”]
The band of four Moscow girls’ DIY rock music scene “Lucidvox” was founded back in 2013 and has released several albums in Russia, but has just made its debut in the international market. Their latest album “We Are (Мы Есть)” has just been released by the German label “Glitterbeat Records”, which specializes more in td “world music”, with a special focus on African music. So it’s a bit surprising to see the rumbling in their catalog psych-rock “Lucidvox” album, presented by the single “Amok”.
Nilüfer Yanya – “Crash” [“ATO”]
English musician Nilefere Janje, whose work has been followed since 2018, last year took care of one of the best debut albums of 2019 with the album “Miss Universe” (with its fantastic single “In Your Head”, which I highly recommend listening to, if more not heard). At the very beginning of 2021, a talented musician who is not shy to mix different musical styles together in his work. indie rock, soul a bed trip-hop, will release a new EP “Feeling Lucky?”. Its single “Crash” actually continues what was heard on the debut album, while at the same time rumbling psych-rock Lucidvox work, but thanks to Janje’s soft vocals, it also creates a relaxing feeling.
