Dedi Mulyadi Cries When Calling Akbar, Scavengers Reading Al-Quran at the Shop Stores Pages all

KOMPAS.com – Members of the Indonesian Parliament Dedi Mulyadi could not bear to cry when he heard the story of life Muhammad Ghifari Akbar, a 16-year-old scavenger who was caught doing the Koran in the shade from the rain in an overhang of a shop in Braga, Bandung City.

The photo of the teenager who is familiarly called Akbar has also become viral on social media and has drawn sympathy for many people.

To Kompas.com via telephone, Thursday (5/11/2020), Dedi said he called Akbar and immediately spoke to him for 20 minutes on Thursday. Dedi also listened to the story of Akbar’s life directly from the teenager.

“I can’t stand to cry hearing Akbar’s story. I talked to Akbar for about 20 minutes by telephone,” said Dedi.

Dedi has sympathy and empathy for Akbar because the story of his life is very inspiring.

There is one interesting thing about Akbar’s story that was captured by Dedi, namely that even though he was in a difficult situation, the teenager still had empathy for other people who were more difficult.

“He always gives other scavengers who are difficult. Such traits are rare. He himself has difficulties, but has more empathy for people who are more difficult,” said Dedi.

Of course there is another story from Akbar which is also very touching. For years, he looked for his mother while picking up trash. Then Akbar could not be separated from the sarong and the Koran. According to Dedi, Akbar’s attitudes are exemplary.

Dedi also invited Akbar to his residence in Purwakarta, Thursday today. Dedi has a number of plans for Akbar.

First, Akbar aspires to establish a pesantren. Dedi will also provide space to fulfill that wish, namely by giving the task of teaching the Koran to children at Subang. While studying, Akbar will also be educated again, especially for the deepening of the yellow books.

“I will call on the teacher to increase the deepening of the book. Actually Akbar can read and understand a number of yellow books, but he needs to be re-educated so that his qualifications can increase,” said Dedi.

Furthermore, Dedi will also give Akbar a job to manage a waste bank in Subang. Dedi admits that he owns a waste bank.

“He works to collect garbage. It must not be lost. He is concerned with waste and waste management. He will be the director of the garbage bank in Lembur Pakuan (Subang),” said the former Purwakarta regent.

In addition, Dedi also prepared capital assistance for his parents of Rp. 10 million. So that when Akbar left, his parents could become entrepreneurs.

Armed with a sarong and Al Quran, Akbar often travels to several regions to find the woman who gave birth to him. However, until now, the mother has not been found. Akbar is resigned and still hopes that his mother will meet him.
