As a result, the autumn wave is weakening. According to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), this is due to “accumulated immunity” from repeated injections and from people who still have antibodies after the summer wave.
According to the RIVM, the autumn holidays in the center and south of the country do not play a role, because cases are also falling in retirement homes and the elderly generally do not go on vacation.
The fastest fall
RIVM recorded 12,311 positive tests in the past seven days, 30% less than a week earlier. This means the fastest decline since the beginning of August, twelve weeks ago.
In the past week, 469 people had to be hospitalized due to their corona complaints, the lowest influx in five weeks. Compared to the week before, the number of admissions to the crown fell by nearly 32%.
More than 3 million repeat shots
In total, more than 3 million people have had a new vaccination. In the past week, around 545,000 people received a new vaccination.
Nearly half of all people over 60 have received a repeat against the corona virus. In the past week, this number has gone from 42.4% to 48.7%.
Since last week, every Dutchman aged 12 and over can get the repeat shot.
The government has been using a “thermometer” to monitor the corona outbreak since September as a follow-up to risk levels. That thermometer still remains in position two, the second lowest level.
There is still no reason for further reduction, because there are still relatively many infections and because vulnerable groups continue to run an additional risk, according to the RIVM.
GGD offices are also seeing it become quieter. Nearly 17,000 people went to a test site for a corona test last week.
The reproduction rate has decreased
The so-called reproduction number has dropped to its lowest level since August 2nd. It is now at 0.82. This means that an average group of one hundred infected people will pass the coronavirus to 82 others.
