Trainers, Niantic, and Pokémon Go are reversing PokeStop’s interaction radius to the predetermined distance.
According to the world’s largest Pokémon Go data miners, the interaction distance for PokeStop has been updated in some countries and players must move closer to spin a PokeStop.
The new PokeStops interaction distance is only available in New Zealand and the US for now, but it looks like these changes will happen around the world at some point.
PokeStop distance changes
- Changed from 80 meters to 40 meters.
According to the official Pokémon Go Blog:
In the coming months, we plan to remove or change some of the bonuses introduced last year. We won’t be making these changes until after the Pokémon GO Fest in July, and will first remove them as a test in the US and New Zealand starting in late July. We will continually remove or change them in other countries and regions over time while introducing new exploration bonuses.
Previously, the PokéStop and Gym interaction distances were increased to allow people to participate from afar. After this change, the distance will revert to the default distance when it makes sense at different locations, although it can be increased in future events and as part of certain characteristics.
Please note that these changes and bonuses are available in some parts of the world, so they are not yet available worldwide.
What do you think of these changes? Do you agree or disagree with this decision?
