Kupang – Death cases due to dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) will decrease in 2023. Throughout this year, there were 12 cases of dengue fever in NTT, down from 29 cases in the previous year.
The NTT Health, Population and Civil Registration Service recorded dengue cases spread across seven regions. Southwest Sumba Regency (SBD) is of particular concern because it is the highest.
“From the available data, the highest number of deaths due to dengue fever was in Southwest Sumba Regency with 5 deaths,” said NTT Head of Health Office Ruth Laiskodat to detikBaliMonday (18/12/2023).
He detailed that throughout January-December 2023, there were 5 cases of death due to dengue fever in SBD, followed by Kupang City 2 cases, Ende Regency 1 case, Manggarai Regency 1 case, East Flores Regency (Flotim) 1 case, Sikka Regency 1 case, and Kupang Regency 1 case.
Ruth claims that dengue cases in 2023 will decrease compared to 2022. Throughout 2023 there were 2,126 cases with 12 deaths, while in 2022 there were 3,376 dengue cases, with 29 deaths.
Ruth appealed to the public to pay more attention to environmental conditions, maintain cleanliness and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
“Entering this rainy season, the community must be more active in dealing with dengue fever cases with 3M, namely draining, covering and recycling various items that have the potential to become mosquito breeding places,” concluded Ruth.
