Decrease in Covid-19 Cases Among Population over 60 in Madrid: Latest Epidemiological Report

The number of new cases of Covid-19 in the Community of Madrid has fallen by 14.5% in the last week among the population over 60 years of age in the region, with 1,799 positive cases confirmed in the last seven days.

Specifically, in the week of October 2 to 8, 305 fewer cases have been recorded than seven days before (2,104 cases), which represents a decrease of 14.5%, compared to an increase of 4.3% in the week. prior, according to the latest weekly epidemiological report from the Ministry of Health.

In this way, the 14-day accumulated incidence stands at 242.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, after adding 3,903 new cases in this period among the population over 60 years of age.

Meanwhile, the 7-day incidence, which marks the behavior of the virus in the shortest term, stood at 111.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 18.9 points more than that recorded a week ago (130.8).

By groups, the highest incidence corresponds to the group 90 years or older, with 229.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. However, this week the 60 to 69 year old group stands out, with a 23.5% decrease in the number of cases.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 37,142 reinfections in the population aged 60 or over, which has accounted for 83.1% of the total infections for this age group.

95.6% of them have had the disease on two occasions, 4.2% on three occasions (1,563), while 49 cases have been recorded on four occasions and, in addition, one person has had it five times. 80.9% of reinfections have occurred in the seventh wave.

Four buds

In the period analyzed, four outbreaks of Covid-19 have been recorded, with 19 people infected. Of the total, 12 have taken place in health centers, the result of two outbreaks, while the remaining seven have been recorded in other types of social and health centers, also due to two other outbreaks.

Regarding vaccination, 96.3% of adult Madrid residents had received the complete schedule and 65.6% had a booster dose. Regarding childhood vaccination for children between 5 and 11 years old, 31% had a complete schedule. In addition, 83.4% of the population aged 80 or over has received the second booster dose, which reaches 22.2% of the adult population.

In vaccinated cases and with a booster or booster dose of the vulnerable population aged 60 or over, the risk of requiring admission to a hospital is reduced by 50.8% and the risk of death from Covid by 54.4%. 19 with respect to unvaccinated cases.

The variants of interest (VOI) are currently BA.2.75 (with eight cases and a frequency of 5.2%), XBB (two cases, 1.3%) and XBB.1.5-Like (145 cases, 93 ,5%).

In the last month, 55 cases of new sublineages have been identified for the first time, corresponding mainly to XBB1.5 and XBB.1.5-like, representing 96.6% of the new identifications.
