Decrease in Bankruptcies in July: Statistics and Industry Analysis

The number of bankruptcies decreased in July, after the number of cases that went bust had only increased in the previous three months.

According to Statistics Netherlands, 241 companies and institutions were declared bankrupt in July. That is 16 percent less than a month earlier. There was still an increase in June. Then 19 percent more companies closed than in the previous month.

In the trade, where most bankruptcies were declared in recent months, the number fell sharply: from 66 in June to 34 in July.

Of all industries, construction now had the highest number of bankruptcies. It should be noted that trade and construction are the largest industries in the Netherlands. According to Statistics Netherlands, relatively speaking, most bankruptcies were declared in the hospitality sector.

Although the number of cases that went bust decreased on a monthly basis, the number of bankruptcies on an annual basis has been higher for at least fifteen months in a row than a year earlier.
