Last year, fewer schoolchildren and students in Bavaria received Bafög benefits. Overall, their number fell by 1.1 percent to 74,771, as the State Statistics Office announced on Tuesday. On average, they received 584 euros per month of funding. That’s about 5 percent more. The total expenditure for this was 341 million euros.

About every seventh student in Bavaria received student loans last year. At a good three quarters, this group accounts for the lion’s share of recipients and grew slightly. On the other hand, the number of students receiving support fell significantly to 15,151.

Almost 52 percent of the recipients received full funding in 2022. Their number rose by almost 15 percent compared to the previous year.
