Since February of this year, the ruling party in Hungary, Fidesz, has lost 400 thousand supporters.
This is evidenced by a survey by the Median center, published on Wednesday by the portal hvg.hureports “European Truth”.
Popular support for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s party fell from 35% to 30%.
However, according to the study, the decline in support for Fidesz did not occur in parallel with the rise in popularity of the opposition.
Over the past six months, support for leftist and liberal parties has also declined, while support for the nationalist Our Motherland (Mi Hazank) movement has increased.
Due to falling support, Fidesz decided to take a bold strategy by holding elections to the European Parliament next year along with local elections.
It is estimated that Orbán’s party can count on 46% support in the European Parliament elections, which is 6.5 percentage points less than in 2019 and 8 percentage points less than in last year’s parliamentary elections.
At the time of September data collection, the Hungarian population was gripped by pessimism that had not been seen since December last year. 65% of respondents said that everything in the country is going in the wrong direction, and only 28% believe that Hungary is moving in the right direction.
Let us recall that, according to media reports, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, at a meeting with colleagues from the Fidesz party and supporters, said that he plans to lead the country until 2034. Previously, he publicly hinted several times that he was planning to be the head of government until 2030.
At the same meeting, according to media reports, Orban announced big plan for the country’s developmentwhich consists of 15 points.
