While prices are far from their peak last year, gas consumption in Europe was in the first half of the year quite low. According to the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GECF), this trend will continue in the coming months.

The war in Ukraine is at the root of a new paradigm in Europe: reduced gas consumption. Prices played a major role in this, as did regulations. After all, Europeans were called upon to reduce their consumption in order to avoid supply shortages.

It confirms what other organizations have already noted: gas consumption in the EU continues to fall. The Forum also predicts that this trend will continue for the rest of the year.

According to the GECF, gas consumption in the first half of 2023 has increased by 10.6% (21 billion cubic metres).
