Russia has marked 50 years since the most tragic incident in its space history by publishing the text of the last radio message of the dead crew of the Soyuz-11 spacecraft, DPA reported.
“We will meet tomorrow, prepare the cognac” – these are the last words of the cosmonaut Vladislav Volkov, sent an hour before the tragedy. Until now, Roscosmos had kept them a secret.
Volkov, along with Georgy Dobrovolsky and Viktor Patsayev, were found dead in the Soyuz-11 capsule on June 30, 1971, on their return from the Salyut orbital space station.
Soyuz-11 leaked during the return flight to Earth due to a damaged nozzle. The three astronauts on board were found dead.
This is the most tragic incident since the beginning of Russian manned space missions.
