Declared dead in a retirement home, she is found alive 3 hours later at the funeral home in New York

In the United States, on Saturday February 4, an 82-year-old woman was recently declared dead by mistake. She was eventually found alive at the funeral home.

She was found alive three hours after her death was declared. Placed in a retirement home in New York, an 82-year-old woman was announced dead on Saturday February 4 at 11:15 a.m., local authorities said, quoted by The Guardian.

Brought to the funeral home at 1:30 p.m., police say she was discovered breathing about 40 minutes later on the spot.

A case that is not isolated

If we do not know more at the present time about her state of health, the unfortunate octogenarian was immediately hospitalized.

According to The Guardian, this is not the first victim to suffer this fate in the United States. A few weeks earlier, in Iowa, a 66-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s disease was also wrongfully pronounced dead.

While she was in a body bag, the funeral home staff realized that the poor woman was suffocating. She was taken care of by the emergency services and hospitalized in palliative care.

She finally died a few days later. The continuing care home where she was wrongly pronounced dead was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
