Declaration after destruction of heart-shaped images for care during riots in Rotterdam

Poort conceived the sculpture exhibition after his wife died of leukemia at a young age. He wanted to draw attention to the work of healthcare in a positive way and started the Heart Work Heroes project, in collaboration with IC specialist Diederik Gommers of Erasmus MC, among others. The statues will be in the center of Rotterdam until June 26. The intention is that they will be auctioned afterwards. The proceeds will go towards improving the number of internships for students in healthcare, improving the image of working in healthcare and a project in which young people can gain experience working in healthcare through the Giovanni van Bronckhorst Foundation. “It concerns jobs in care in the broadest sense of the word. From cleaners, assistants and nurses to specialists.”
