Decision after election – FPÖ plans investigative committee to investigate Corona

Decision after election – FPÖ plans investigative committee to investigate Corona | krone.at

The National Council election has not even been held yet, but the next investigative committee is already as good as certain. The Freedom Party wants to set up its own investigative committee in the newly constituted National Council to investigate the corona pandemic and will probably soon be able to decide on this on its own.

Only a few months ago, the COFAG and abuse of power investigation committees came to an end. Because the abuse of power investigation committee in particular had developed into a real espionage thriller involving the alleged Russian double agent Egisto Ott, several parties emphasized that they wanted to set up a Russia investigation committee after the National Council elections. The Freedom Party also supported this demand. At the same time, however, the blue camp is clearly pursuing other plans.

FPÖ could probably decide on investigative committee alone
As the “Krone” learned, the FPÖ club has long since prepared everything for an investigative committee to deal with the Corona crisis. This committee is to be set up in the new National Council – and if necessary only with the votes of the Freedom Party.

If the Blues, led by party leader Herbert Kickl, achieve more than 25 percent as expected, they will probably have at least a quarter of the members of the National Council in the future. And thus enough to set up an investigative committee. The investigative committee on red-blue abuse of power was also decided on by the ÖVP alone.

Hafenecker: “We owe this to the citizens”
FPÖ General Secretary Christian Hafenecker confirmed the planning to the “Krone” newspaper: “Herbert Kickl has always called for a comprehensive review of the Corona period, so it is a declared goal for the FPÖ to initiate such a process in the new legislative period.”

In any case, the aim will be to clarify the political responsibility in connection with all corona measures and the actual or alleged fight against the Covid 19 pandemic. This is what we owe to the citizens and many victims of the pandemic, said Hafenecker.
