A new tragedy struck French football this Saturday with the death of a 31-year-old Nantes supporter. The latter was allegedly stabbed to death by one of the VTC drivers who accompanied Nice supporters. He is suspected of having fatally shot the victim in the back and is currently in police custody. According to the first elements of the investigation, fans from Nantes would have waited then shaken VTCs in which their Nice counterparts were as they passed in front of the Saint-Georges, a well-known bar of the Loire Brigade.

A trap set for the people of Nice?

David Tan, who was one of the drivers present, has just revealed his version of the facts in comments reported by France 3. And important details are made: « I sympathize with the pain of the supporters. If we lose someone before going to a match it’s sad. I was at the head of the procession and as we arrived near the Halvèque stop in Nantes we saw a pack of 300 people arriving dressed in black. They jumped on my vehicle to extricate the young people inside. It hit, it broke. There were seven vehicles. Including two vans. Me at the head of the procession, my other colleagues behind. And the last van, when he saw all this mass, he backed away, he left. He didn’t even drop off the Nice supporters at the stadium. They took them back to their hotel because they simply feared for their safety. He got into a fight with people from the Loire Brigade. Ihad a bruise on her hand and almost took a glass bottle to the head. His vehicle was requisitioned by the police. There is a camera filming everything on it. He must go to the Nantes police station when he leaves the hospital” said the driver in particular, before denouncing these excessively numerous actions on the part of hooligans.

No police

At the same time, David Tan deplored the actions of some and the lack of police supervision for this type of event: “It’s a hooligan horde. There are too many attacks, too much violence in our country currently linked to football. What happened in Lyon, what happened in Nantes for a man with his son who was attacked, it is no longer possible. There was no police supervision and no police escort when the young supporters called”. Note that this Sunday, hearings of Brigade Loire supporters are underway. The Nantes public prosecutor will hold a press briefing on this case this Monday, December 4.
