The branch of the Decathlon sports shop at Vredenburg in Utrecht will close again after four years. The chain has decided to do so because of the increase in rent, personnel and energy costs. From August 14, the doors of this location will remain permanently closed.
On October 16, 2019 opened the Decathlon in the former C&A building on the Vredenburg. At the time, former alderman Klaas Verschuure and Wouter Mol, an employee of the chain, festively cut a ribbon.
Now Decathlon decides to close the case again. “Due to the developments in the market (increase in rent, personnel and energy costs), we see that continuing our mission – making sport accessible to as many people as possible – with our Decathlon Vredenburg location is unfortunately no longer possible”, says read on the chain’s website.
Decathlon also has a branch in The Wall in Leidsche Rijn. This will remain open for the time being. It is not yet known what will be in the Vredenburg building.
